@andrewfranklin4429 I've been researching and writing about transportation and transit issues since the 1990s and I can tell you exactly why the LVM went bankrupt: It was due to the concerted effort by taxi and shuttle operators to prevent its connection to the airport. I assure you that those Loop capacity projections are complete nonsensical fiction. You're comparing systems that actually EXIST with a lovely graphical rendering created at the behest of an investor who has NEVER built one linear foot of a public transit system -- HE SELLS CARS. Grow up, child. If you are actually interested in learning something about REAL transit solutions, come join us at the APTA Expo in Orlando next week. There will be lots of trains, buses, presentations, complimentary snacks, and free swag. I've been to several and it's a hoot!

@andrewfranklin4429 It's interesting that you completely avoided addressing the point. EVERY so-called "innovative" transit solution proposed over the past 30 to 40 years has been an abysmal failure. Several flavors of urban PRT (most notably Raytheon's PRT2000), the DuoRail concept, cantilevered monobeam, and too many others to list. Each and every one of them promised use of "off-the-shelf" technology, insanely cheap implementation, and even the impossible "profitable operation at no cost to taxpayers." Each failed because there was NO compelling reason to select it over existing transit modes. Like your boy Musk, the developers of these "innovative" transit modes insisted on solving "problems" that simply DO NOT EXIST. In so failing, they distracted from real, proven solutions with actual operational history and predictable costs with their pie-in-the-sky bullshittery. Likewise, Musk's bullshittery WILL cost the taxpayers plenty: street-level disruption during construction, opportunity costs due to distracting the local government from more viable transit modes, surface connections to the "system" of holes in the ground eating up acres of streets and sidewalks, emergency services, etc. You're defending a slick con man whose only goal is to SELL MORE CARS. HIS cars. His tunnels lack adequate ventilation, ensuring that only pure electric cars can operate in them. ALL of his still-existent companies depended on taxpayer handouts to become profitable. SpaceX needed NASA contracts. Tesla needed billions in state and local tax incentives plus a per-vehicle federal tax credit that YOU paid for whether you bought a Tesla or not. I must repeat: Musk has NEVER built one inch of functional transit infrastructure. NEVER. His Boring Company was actually FIRED from multiple transit projects. Why are you defending him? Do you own Tesla stock?

This project will fall apart as have so many others before it. You need to study the examples I gave you, but you won't. Keep defending the uber-wealthy because they care about your life so much.

@andrewfranklin4429 Why would you believe any of those claims in the face of his abysmal track record? Did you not see the construction videos from the itty-bitty tunnel construction? MASSIVE holes were dug to get the boring machine into position. approach ramps would need to be emplaced in several locations for vehicle insertion and retrieval. escalators, stairs, and elevators will be needed to get people to the stations. Maintenance facilities will need to be built on the surface.

Las Vegas already HAS a fully automated monorail line. It has 7 stations and a maintenance facility along a 4 mile route and was built with private funding in fewer than 3 years. The main obstacle to its success was the concerted effort by taxi and shuttle operators to prevent its connection to the airport. It is now owned by the LVCVB, who should be focusing their time and money on extending the line to the airport (which is literally across the road from the line's southern terminus), instead of filling the pockets of an already-wealthy self-promoting investor.
