@mvpfocus I would suggest simply blinking your hazards for a few cycles. It's safer than those other two alternatives by far.

@contumelious-8440 I didn't explicitly say that blinking your hazards two or three times was a "pass me" signal. It's a far less dangerous "get off my ass" alternative signal than lightly touching one's brakes and risking being chased down by some 'roid-raging lunatic who wrongly perceived it as brake-checking (which we've seen happen countless times on this very channel). In my state, moving over to the paved shoulder is a universally recognized "pass me" signal -- as is sticking your arm outside and motioning forward. I would like to see the citation from your state's MVC that supports your bizarre assertion that moving vehicles cannot lawfully engage their hazard lights. What if there's a sudden slowdown ahead and there are people behind you still driving fast? In such a situation, hitting your hazards as you brake is a perfectly rational safety enhancement. What if there's crap on the road? You might want to hit your hazards as you dodge it to warn others. If that law exists, it makes less sense than California banning internal combustion engines, which also unintentionally (so I assume, but I'm probably giving those corrupt lunatics too much credit) bans hybrid-electric and biofuel-powered vehicles.
