Tell us about the old-school early 20th Century punch-button switches! My granny's house was full of those clunky things. My house, on the other hand, is full of Insteon smart switches, dimmer modules, and relay modules which form a virtual multiplexed wiring system. One advantage is that I can turn my coffee maker on before I get out of bed and turn it off from any of 7 locations in my house and office (plus from my phone) if I forget to turn it off in the kitchen (that used to be a frequent issue). I can also adjust my HVAC from my desk, phone, or by yelling at Alexa (don't judge me). It's fairly robust. I've had most of it for more than a decade and only 4 out of 23 single-band switches I installed before 2010 have gone insane or committed electronic suicide. I chose to view it as an upgrade opportunity and replaced them with new dual-band switches, which boosted the performance of the entire system. All but one of the Insteon switches I installed in my coastal rental property even survived Hurricane Harvey and still work fine.
