  1. You can't really fault people for this since our society doesn't teach us how to do anything but be a cog in the machine. Mental health, ethics, philosophy are not seen as important, it's just about how successful you are in terms of wealth, status and appearance

  2. agreed, I can't be around my parents for long periods of time since I can't stand conflict/argument seekers and mean spirited people and they are both. If you have good parents DO spend more time with them though
