  29.  @wearebecomedeathstar2658  I'm literally a municipal democratic socialist... I draw from (anti-capitalist) socialist thinkers, like Murray Bookchin, Gar Alperovitz, and Noam Chomsky. All three of these thinkers are anti-authoritarian and anti-capitalist who don't want state control nor Capitalism, we want political and economic democracy via cooperative networks and mutual aid societies that empower workers and community members, rather than empowering owners of capital goods (capitalism). This should not be confused with Nordic "social democracy", which does seek to balance state welfare with capitalism. The easiest way to understand that your conception is wrong is the fact that most of anarchistic philosophies is socialist or communist and expressly anti-capitalist, like Noam Chomsky. I'm not an anarchists though. Serious question, what socialist philosophers have you even read?

  30.  @wearebecomedeathstar2658  If you've read Chomsky or Marx, these are two socialists that radically disagree about how to achieve Socialism YET they both agree that socialism is the abolishment of Capitalism by abolishing private property that underlies capitalism and it's profit motive. It's pretty ridiculous to say I can't use socialists of different types to show the throughline of what socialism is; asking an expert is not an appeal to authority, no more than asking a mechanic to look at a car- smh. Private property can be understood as control without directly working the property, for instance, if I own a share of stock I own a portion of the capital goods in the business and can vote at shareholder meeting on how the company should be managed- even I don't work at the firm. Co-ops and mutual aid associations don't have shareholders, they have members that directly use the good/ service. Production under socialism is for the use-needs of the society, not for private profits of capitalist. If you've read either Marx or Chomsky you should know that. But cool, keep asserting that I don't "know what socialism is" even though I have read wayyyy more socialist philosophy than you have. The amount of insincerity and arrogance it takes to hand wave away key people who help create the philosophy in the first place as "appeals to authority", is frankly, childish and complete unproductive. You literally said "America is a socialist nation". To think that the military is "socialism" when the US uses its military to destabilize countries thinking about socialism and to install capitalist-friendly dictators is just ridiculous. But some people just like making themselves look ridiculous, take care, bud- maybe do some more research.

  34. Even as a democratic socialist, I would agree that it's a bad solution. From blocking very low skilled workers out and putting a disproportionate pressure on small businesses compared to large ones. These are just the market effects of capitalism. (Min wage should be increased, just not to $15 nationally) Solutions should come from re-examining how we deliver goods and services. I'm not a fan of Andrew Yang's value-added tax UBI but I do like the concept of UBI. Income tax brackets need to spread more progressively and accounting for +500K incomes. In addition with move from work based healthcare to single payer health insurance this would radically reduce burdens on lower income families and reduce the risk of unemployment. Increasing union rights and cooperatives is another way to increase wages and increase the standard of workers treatment (maybe they can strike longer knowing they won't lose their health care).

  36. What does this "free market" even mean? People call the Wild West free market.... Yeah it was genocidally stripped from its native population whom which the living were moved to reservations after most the treaties they made with the natives were broken. Then land was given out through the United States Homestead Act to a new colonial population. Capitalism is based on violent government intervention to establish capitalism in the first place, to say that capitalism means a lack of intervention by government is to misunderstand how the state reinforces capitalism money based hierarchies. Capitalism needs the state for its basic protection, and then often exceedingly plunders it for favors.
