  2.  @FrankHeuvelman  Social democracy is a workable concept that definitely improves conditions for the working class, impoverished, and elderly. But let's remember that social democracy was originally formulated as a step to Democratic Socialism (Eugene Debbs was a part of the United States Social Democracy Party even though he was a democratic socialist, due to his reformist views). Democratic socialism is not Marxist Leninism and arranges politics democratically and the economy is arranged democratically. There have been many social experiments through the Next System Project that show these democratic economic institutions have viability in further increasing conditions of the populace. Social democracy still relies on economic aristocracy, but with a big welfare system. I say screw the welfare Band-Aid approaches, we need to structure society in a way that respects human dignity and autonomy.
