Comments by "rondhole" (@rondhole) on "Why the Nissan VQ V6 Engine is Still Being Sought After, 20 Years Later" video.
It's really surprising how stupid newer VQ35 engines. I believe older VQ water pump was outside the timing cover. At least before Renault destroyed Renault reputations

@speedkar99 Most Americans and Canadians got cheap oil change deals but most of them use nonsynthetic oil, and most people don't check oil level regularly. European paid close to $200 in their annual 5L oil change in most shop, although DIY may save 4x less. But they do check oil level more often since oil change interval is 1-2 years. Most Japanese cars has small oil sums and within 10k miles, all oil can be burned

@Sam S That sucks, we need car that can be used out of the box. Just fuel and go. Anything that needs more than engine, transmission, brake, coolant fluid change and filter change within 100k miles are trash. Nissan engines are still better than most European cars, but not as good as it used to be. I believe 2002 is the time, when it degrades so badly. Nissan also the one who makes CVT name bad together with older HOnda belt-CVT. Newer Honda and Nissan CVT are ok, not as great as e-CVT (all gears, no belt) that can run 500k miles without any issue.

@speedkar99 thanks for the info, I thought I was stupid getting oil burner, head gasket blower QR25DE engine with many defects instead of VQ. But VQ is not that good either compared to toyota V6. My Sienna 2004 with 200k miles hot florida still not burn any oil with 10k miles OCI 0w-40 oil. I prefer any 0w-xx oil than anything else since they are just really good from high quality base.

@pushhrodd01 but the water pump is way easier to replace, outside timing cover

@Sam S https://www.carcomplaints.com/Nissan/Altima/2002/ label it as Plague from smart move removing EGR and sucking catalytic converter ceramic to the engine. Yes, Nissan made a good VQ engine for enthusiasts but not for most people that use it as appliances. Putting waterpump inside timing cover is just stupid, the rest of the engine is solid although similar recalls and defect just like 2GR-FE on VVT sprocket, etc. The engine may be good, but the rest of the car such as rusting, bad wheel bearing, engine mounts, etc. were so common in post-2002 Nissan.

@Sam S In terms of power and torque, they are both the same, if you always spin the tires, it means the car needs limited-slip differential to deliver power better. Both engine can make really good power just like in Lotus Evora out of the box 400HP.

@speedkar99 what is the main cause of oil burning? Pistons or the heads? In my QR25DE, it was the valve stems seals and i believe cylinder ring too. It also has piston also when engine is cold
