Thanks for good information. But the thin plastics and metals you are talking about is not right. newer Camry definitely better in all possible ways: rigid, agile, powerful, more efficient, and better look. Thinner but stiffer in some places, makes new camry better handling and rigidity. The plastics at front is for safety in case of hitting pedestrian and the hood and trunk are aluminum, not steel to reduce weight. Texture plastics are used instead of smooth because of durability in scratches and visually not to obvious when you scrub it.

@speedkar99 just like TPMS, ABS, hybrid, turbo, stability control, 8 speed trans. etc. They are less reliable for sure than simple 3 speed trans, non vvti, etc. But for 20 years lifespan 200k miles benchmarks are still doable for camry. Fuel saving alone should pay back whatever breaks in most cases.

Toyota put thick metal and frame on location for impact not for shell/skin. The thin sounds are from aluminum hoods and trunk but it is better for less weight. insulation in cabin is better in new one and no need to sound deadener on the rear quarter panels or doors. They may put it on on Lexus. People mistakenly think that flimsy front plastics as a bad thing, but it is made for pedestrian reduce impact effect. Body up front has more flex for this reasons. IIHS and NCAP required test for torso, head, and body impacts. There is nothing worse in new Toyota except may be price, and even they use regular oil filter, not catridge anymore. Old cars, looks and feel thicker but they are not safer in case of crash.

@fifthheaven altima is death on arrival, no need to discuss. Accord is still great but not much has been changed besides v6 becomes less reliable 4 cylinder turbo. Camry changed a lot in suspension and dual injection. With direct injection only engine, carbon build up is guaranteed
