Last month, in Brazil, I registered temperatures of 34° C inside my house, where I was protected from the sun (my house isn't particularly exposed to sunlight) and had no air conditioner or fan on. If it wasn't for a piece of cloth I had on my shoulders which I was constantly moisturizing with water from the fridge, I probably wouldn't have endured it.

  2. Yeah the US culture is super saturated in science communication. I'm yet to find relevant videos of people talking about climate change in my native language. The people around me all acknowledge the problem, of course, but no one is talking about it and no one knows the nuances.

  4. Especially with marijuana plants being more potent today, a joint a day definitely sounds like a lot of weed. That's what I smoke and I consider it a lot. Keep in mind that "a joint a day" is no indicator of how much weed you actually smoke since you can roll a small to moderate to badonkus size joint if you want.

I'd like to offer some feedback: when you complete the quiz, some of the answers are provided to us, but then the page blocks the rest of them with the message: "Join now to uncover your rest quiz results!". Shouldn't it say "Join now to uncover the rest of your quiz resuts!"?

  19. Hey Sabine, I'm loving taking the Quizwithit's quizes, they're super fun! I couldn't check the quiz's answer even though I signed up, though. Also, the background color for when you select an option by clicking on its button is too similar to its unselected version, you might want to increase contrast a bit. If I might make another suggestion, after I submit my answer, it takes a while for the quiz to move to the next question. That's not a problem in and of itself, but it might be better to add a loading animation like a rotating circle of something. As it is, it seems like the page is frozen. Happy physicing! Oh, wait, wrong channel.

Just because an explanation requires less parameters than another doesn't make it more accurate, although if both have the same explanatory power, it would be reasonable to discard the more complicated one, but since two models will hardly make the exact same predictions, there could always be value in considering the less simple one.

  30. Honestly I dislike doctors more every year. Sabine's joke about 79% of people reporting negative experiences with doctors is real. I'd say that's about how often I come out of a doctor's appointment upset with the service provided. Most of the time they don't really understand that their patients are real people. There's only one profession I dislike more than doctors: RH.

  37. I think models should be evaluated considering their power to explain current data and make accurate predictions. If a model helps us understand reality and has made predictions which were time and time again confirmed, who cares if it's impossible to recreate the conditions that it explains? Some scales of nature are just to big for our instruments to recreate, but they're still there for us to observe.

I think making any object in an orbit that both tracks the Earth and is closer to the sun would require A LOT more planning, resources, would considerably make the actual mirrors more complex etc. Orbits are faster close to the sun, plus the distance to be travelled would be smaller. Both contribute to the place in orbit not track Earth's placement. The mirrors would literally have to have insane propulsion systems on at all times fighting gravity much stronger than on Earth to keep the actual desired positions.

I think the point is that CO2 is easeally absorved by the ocean, so if we could capture a considerable amount of it and put it in an inert form at the bottom of the ocean, the ocean would absorb more CO2 from the atmosphere, thereby reducing the CO2 in the atmosphere. Honestly, it's not such a bad idea
