  6. ​ @DrScott666  You are half right. Ike was a reasonable, pro business Republican. Back then we still had regulated capitalism & high taxes on rich. Tho a West Point grad & 5 star general, he called out MIC as he left office NOT during his terms. The economy was bad in '50s. Probably why he got us mixed up in No Korea & later VN & McCarthyism Red Scare Nixon was last real Republican. Despite his paranoia & emotional problems, Tricky Dicky was a highly intelligent man who hated the rich & built excellent foreign relations. However, he came to fame with Red Scare, made Pot illegal & ordered open fire on protestors at Kent State. He also beat his wife. Not a nice man JFK wasn't in office long enough to judge anything he said or did except almost getting us in a war with USSR, Cuba / Bay of Pigs. He was a proponent of good physical ed in public schools. We all had to pass fitness tests to graduate. Good thing! State colleges & Uni were almost free! In 1963 was largest college enrollment in history. Low income kids like me were able to get a degree. Altho I doubt if most h.s. grads today would be accepted. Standards were high. LBJ was the last FDR president, passed Medicare, Civil Rights Act & if not for Viet Nam, he would have won a 2nd term.
