  1. Bernie, me too! I'm 73. My dad died at 39. My mother was only 34, left with 4 children & had never worked or finished h.s. At 16 I was the oldest, able to graduate from a PA state university, cost me $250 per year for tuition. I commuted by bus & train. I worked nights & summers. I was the first person in my family to achieve a BS + teaching license. Don't let anyone tell these families that affordable college is pie in the sky! Gotta say our education today from K-12 is inadequate, standards are far below what we needed to achieve for college acceptance. Parents need to petition schools to prohibit cell phones & to insist on mandatory summer reading lists & book reports like I used to have.
