I think the real issue is the lack of education in our schools incl college. Government classes were mandatory as was Civics in grade school. We were encouraged to become politically active & involved. My parents & many of my friend's parents took part in local elections, worked pols, ran for Council etc. We studied history, read books, these younger people don't.

There needs to be a cap on funding for any campaign, anything spent or raised over the limit should be grounds for fraud. I think we are all sick of being puppets. The main thing is for voters to be informed & vote for issues not the media personalities. People need to vote which I think should be mandatory! Make it a national holiday wi online voting from home or at voting stations with paper receipts, 1 to keep, 1 mailed in so elections could be contested.

VAT tax would be the best & simplest in my opinion that way the rich would have to pay more on their new yacht or mercedes - most states have sales tax so simple way is to add 5% to all purchases except food . 5 cents on a dollar would fund single payer. $2,500 on a $50, 000 car or $1,000 on 20K car. specifically for medicare - Gov already adds tax to cigarettes, alcohol, etc but it is hidden.

I do believe that we do need more strict immigration laws enforced now & in the future but to punish children or their parents who have been here for many years, work & pay taxes is hideous & cruel. These illegals were duped, used & abused. My advice would be for all of them over the legal state age to get married to an American like Trump's wife did! If we made ESL classes mandatory & free with transportation allowance provided to all illegal immigrants now residing in US so they could assimilate into our culture deflecting the bigotry they now face. Also, government classes need to be provided. After completion & residency of 5 yrs, they should be given citizenship, retroactive. Canada, Sweden & many countries have more strict requirements for new immigrants such as a trade or college & sponsors, criminal background checks, English language, some money so they could secure work almost immediately & become a contributing member of society.
