  2.  @csuporj  Donbas voted in favour of ukraine independance in 1991. They never had a chance to do a proper vote as putin backed militias took over and forced referendum on the people. Same in crimea. Thats never going to be recognised internationally. The host country excluded whilst its unfriendly neighbour included. 92% voted in favour in 1991. All of the oblasts backed it. Why after 22 years of putin rule has the ethnic russians turned against that vote. Putins most potent weapon is his propaganda. Thats why. 22 years of putin tv broadcast to ukraines border regions. Creating the political and ethnic division required. Referendums need to be held in peaceful and stable times so both sides can make their case. Putin will never allow that. His objective all along is not to bring donbas back under his control but all of ukraine. Thats why he first went for kiev. His ultimate aim is to recreate the old USSR into a "greater russian world" to rival the west. Imperialism. Now its just about saving face and donbas.
