Putin invading ukraine in 2022 made them pay their fair share. Putin also made NATO much stronger and more united by invading, as finland and sweden joined because of it. You need to remember that no country in NATO is anywhere near the military powerhouse that is the US. Nor anywhere near the economic powerhouse that it is. Or depend on its military for influence in the world as much as the US does either.

It was only 13 seats out of about 700 so not as significant as first thought. A lot is to do with immigration controls or the lack of it over recent years. Similar to trump in the US.
