@sergeyb8 Russia is a nationalist country. He needed far right support to take on putin on the streets if his revolution was ever to happen. Plenty of his far right supporters got jailed earlier in putins "alleged" crackdown on nazi groups in russia. Nemtsov, before he was murdered, said navalny was still the best hope for change in russia. He was predominately pro democracy and peaceful change until he realised he needed violent street demonstrations to achieve it. Same as happened in maidan. As to whether he would be an improvement on putin? I think any politician would be at the moment.

@TheBiggestBoog Because they were seen as a terrorist threat.. The "war on terror" was not like a normal war. You had people coming from all over the place to support those islamic fundamentalist groups and their terror war on western civilisation. Obama tried for 5 years to get the detainees tried and the place closed down but failed. The complexities were too much to overcome tho he did bring the numbers held down. Gotta remember some of those released went back to committing terrorism again. Tho many were also innocent too. The main problem for me was the US as a country just didnt want to prosecute or detain the terrorists in their own country. 9/11 still looming large in the psyche of the american public and its government.
