They did, the rebels have captured over 200 T-72s and T-80s in the last week alone, a Pantsir and the radar of an S300/S400 today, modern systems that indicate it was armed.

@alexelshami8723 The issue is what comes after. Egyptians were hand holding and parading with Christians before they decided to start culling them and burning down churches a few years later.

@davemorgan6013 My point is the Americans weren't attacking the Taliban before they left, the Russians are airstriking and firing cruise missiles at the rebels and they're still advancing.

Those were not Iraqi army troops, they were Iranian-backed militia troops, there were 5 captured and 3 were of Afghan nationality so probably Iranian-backed Afghan militia moving through Iraq into Syria. The Americans wouldn't attack Iraqi troops, the war ended 20 years ago.

They "overran" the country because the Americans withdrew, the Taliban didn't storm US positions and take them by force, they waited until all the Americans left Kabul before taking the airport.

@warlorddthorn4173 Suspiciously timed? It was times for the ceasefire between Hezbollah and Israel, which didn't last long. Hezbollah was the reason Assad pushed these groups back in 2019, it was significantly weakened by Israel and they pulled forces from Syria into Lebanon to fight the IDF which HTS saw and made their move.

@MarioSchlemmer-s5k "Cowards retreat" is very funny, seeing as how they occupied the country for 20 years with minimal casualties then left without fighting the Taliban. The ANA was trained and tasked with holding Afghanistan after the US left, that was the goal of the US military in Afghanistan for the last ten years, it's not the US' fault the ANA decided to surrender instead of fight after they left. You want to see a cowards retreat? Just look at how the Russians ran from Hama airbase days ago and pulled their ships out of Port Taurus.

@pnduarte4696 Americans "losing Afghanistan" after occupying it for 20 years while losing only several thousand troops isn't me coping. The USSR had a land border to Afghanistan, fought for a fraction of the time that Americans did (from half way across the world) and had close to 100k casualties as per their own reports. Nevermind the hundreds of helicopters lost, tanks, APCs, it was a joke. The USSR had over 600,000 troops in Afghanistan at the same time and were unable to suppress the Mujahideen for 10 years, the Americans did it in one year and established bases all over the country. Russian ships left port Taurus and are striking cities with cruise missiles which are killing civilians as shown in videos shared to Telegram, hardly winning the war..

@pnduarte4696 Surrendering en mass to the Talibam after being trained for years, I suppose.

@Botzorz Battles between the ANA and Taliban, not the US and the Taliban. There were Taliban posted all around the airport and not a single shot was fired. Any US casualties around Kabul Airport were a result of IS bombers, which also killed dozens of Taliban.

@pnduarte4696 Irrelevant, the Taliban was supplied by the Russians after the US invaded yet we don't see anywhere nearly as many personnel losses or material losses over twice the time the USSR held it. America is on the other side of the world, the USSR is on Afghanistan's border. Embarrassing.
