  2. Living in Pushkin in 1993 and the typical Russian apartment blocks are horrendous. All the same format, but the stink of piss and sewage as soon as you enter is horrendous. The had long hallways and grandparents, parents and children all living in that one rather large apartment. If you want to live in a depressing soviet style block of flats like the one in the vid...well go for it. But they do stink. For $122K to live in THAT....no. In Pushkin, I lived in a large house, the garden was a jungle, like most gardens. What really threw me was the on street cubicle with a long queue forming first thing in the morning. The cubicle was a vodka stand where people going to work, filled up their bottle with vodka to see them through the day. But watching the ice floes break up and float down the Neva in Spring is marvellous.

  3. But then again, the US has 600,000 homeless people......Russia has none. GDP means nothing when you do not have a roof over your head. Oh - you forgot another statistic, the US is Globally No2 for Poverty.

  5. The US DID have these facilities at one time until their stupid 1950's planning laws created the mess they have now.
