some people just dont have the money it takes to evacuate, cause like it or not it takes money to save yourself

@suzanne9150 it costs money for gas for that car to leave the predicted area of impact. gas , food, and then no idea how long you will be gone. after Ida last year those who left were not allowed back for 2 weeks and that was just the water receding . there are people and families here that are still displaced cause the insurance companies refuse to pay for what actually did the damage, claiming to to be caused by something else. if you have ever stayed or had to evacuate for a hurricane, you would understand the difference and the cost it takes

@suzanne9150 have you been to a evac shelter ? much less with a pet ? i have 4 huskies . your pets must have carriers/cages and the food and water for them . the only shelter here after Ida was like that . dont own a vehicle to hold 4 full size dog cages

@jefflarson1652 i have 2 legs and i stand just fine we are talking about extra expenditures such as evacuation due to a hurricane. besides my service dog would love to thank you . and what exactly does the number of animals a person has has to do with affording gas to be able to spend 12 to 18 hours on a highway with everyone else evacuating from the path of a hurricane.

@dorianshadesofgray its not about money ? the shelter here would take you and your pet only if your let was in a cage . i have 4 huskies. not a suburban or truck to fit 4 cages , much less the cages themselves. besides who would put their pets in a cage in the bed of a truck during a hurricane to evac to a shelter

@hog7203 or just cant . i like the idea of a shelter that was set up for the elderly dedicated to those with medical needs and such. there should be one or several of those all along the coast in every city or town

@jefflarson1652 i have 4 huskies, 1 of which is my ptsd service dog . really everyone have an evac plan, then why are there people still in their homes. clearly you are someone who has never been thru one of these. come back when you do

@tinyderppotato5410 4 dogs a cat my daughter left b4 she left for college my self my son and my wife. in a 2010 ford escape. yes i know the name is ironic. and some of you people are missing the point. we didnt have the extra funds to evac none of us along hwy 307 did when the storm surge from Ida came in at midnight after being battered with winds of 160 mph for 6 hours
