I'm Irish and not shy on 800 years and all the troubles..BUT The proms is a celebration of your culture and can do attitude, don't you dare let anyone stop you celebrating that and keep wavings flags and hats! Actually proms have included very modern themes , movies etc and the children's ones ..The song was about atime that ye were rallying yourselves together when being raided (we have plenty of those!) ...lastly music is for everyone to enjoy it should not have barriers and radicalised that is just utter stupidity ..

@IUsedToBeSomeoneElseX where did you learn that please ? Baltimore is in Ireland , The Barbarys were taking slaves from Ireland, England all over Europe...English were evicting native Irish from their homes and taking over... So very tactical if was an Irishman that guided them there..but as was on coast im sure would have found it

It went on alot longer and even after abolishment...soes she hear the Irish up there shouting for reparations?we were not given thosands every year to our country as aid either... No they just getting on with lives,of course its sad to think of , cruel in fact, but we are not begging Britain for money.always grifting

@shelleyphilcox4743 you are very wrong to claim that Irish were doing the slave trading ,complete opposite..Vikings were ruling over Ireland at the time ,and yes they build the largest slave port in Dublin Ireland , ..but the Vikings traded the native Irish ,English and Welsh from there .....Vikings enslaved and took Irish in raids with them , took them to Iceland and settled them there also ..but very very wrong about Irish involvement.........after Vikings it was England ruling Ireland for 800 years ,where they were again shipped, sold traded by the English this time ..

@shelleyphilcox4743 yes the Vikings obviously settled and intermingled in Ireland, more so on their 2nd time taking over...They continued raiding England , Wales , Scotland and Ireland for their slaves ..some English traded and sold their own children to the Vikings and destitute....to the extent that the port was in Dublin and under Viking control ..of course their would be Irish people working at the ports and on ships.... Merchants and producers of food and linen would have benefited from supplying goods. What you are referring to was not slavery ..during Irish Brehon law no jails..so was a type of compensation to injured party ..and you worked to pay back damages..but could work way back up society again..
