The thing is this almost entirely necessitates foreign involvement. India's domestic miners both in the private and public sector are absolutely incompetent and useless when it comes to extracting, refining and processing an element like lithium.

You do realize that America's concerns don't revolve around lithium extraction(You really need to pay attention to American political discourse before going off on conspiratorial rants of secret American intervention in Ukraine, read those diplomatic cables you cited again, this thoroughly) from literally an oceans away when they can source the same thing from Australia, Canada( proximate and close allies, Canada is part of an integrated north American trade agreement without a challenging security environment like that of India's) and South Americans(proximity and access to America's Western seaboard). Thats in addition to their own existing reserves when placed together with that of their allies that's more than enough. Plus lithium isnt the only element that goes into EV batteries. Also The CATL is the one with the actual technology that even top end firms like TESLA use. Thats not even counting companies like BYD which have developed their own iterations of lithium based cells(and actually sell more cars than Tesla though not by value).

Actually operationalizing this mine for commerical extraction will probably take atleast half a decade for a normal country. For India it'll be more than a decade.

7:21mark your words ? Why waste time ? At the moment US's overriding concern is China. Because of which they'll forgive shit that in the normal course of business would elicit caustic response. Americans didnt respond when the French, Israelis, South Koreans and Chinese(until they became brazen) committed IP theft, and manipulated their currencies to make their products export competitive during the cold war because they had bigger fish to fry(Soviets). It's about America's priorities, India simply is not one of them or is limited to being viewed as a bulwark against China. American private commerical interests take a back seat when they face an economic threat from a near peer economic adversary.

10:51my man learn to read the chart instead of perusing the pictures and colours. The one on the left in particular means that they don't need to wrangle India to do anything. Especially if it's supply chain security that they're looking for. The second and third largest reserves are held by countries that are more closer geographically and politically to the US than India is. As for Bolivia it's a landlocked nothing state thats a stones throw away from viva la revolucion. Americans have a rich history of screwing around in LatAm they just have tweak those tools to make them more PR friendly.

Really now ? I agree Adanis is getting the short end of he stick. But 'AmErIcA ahhh" ? use your brain. India has a trade surplus with the US if they really wanted to screw us over they could easily do that. Now if we are talking about a particular ideological/political faction in the US that's more plausible.
