I remember the one tiff they had about growth hormones in beef.

@proger1960 no they dont. the skeleton that forms the back bone of modern technologies are built in Asia(especially east asia and south east asia). also your statement shows a distinct lack of understanding of the startup scene in East&S.East Asia.

4:42 not in this century. atleast not by relying on the common market. urbanization,Shitty demography/collapse, no consumption base-> Over reliance on exports aka US market. If you think the Americans in this era of protectionism and political paranoia are going to allow EU to do anything that can challenge their dominance, then you dont know America. US has already concluded their NAFTA-2s they are done with Europe- UK.

A very well researched and well produced amd highly informative video. Funny enough now i see why Europe doesnt produce tech unicorns at the rate and scale that US does.

@DvDick yeah socialism. not really functional. I can point to ten different nations across multiple continents that have a socialism imbedded in their constitutions and still come up short on multiple fronts compared to say one without it. For all the claims of Europe being a breeding for socialism. Countries in Europe tthat rank highest in terms of Hdi and equality income are also some of the most capitalist/easiest place to do business in, Taxes are high but thats just one factor.

Europe is no more than a country than Sun is a planet. The comparison in itself is flawed. Another factor that is conveniantly overlooked by left of centre thinkers who endorse the nordic style welfare state is the remarkable ethnolinguistic homogenity that allows those states to create a sociopolitical consensus that facilitates the trade offs of living in a welfare state that is curtailing the economic rights of the few to benefit the many. when you see nearly everybody within your national borders as an integral part of your national/societal/cultural/lingusitic/ethnic identity it surely mellows the resistance. for it is for the greater good of the tribe that one sacrifices what one is owed, when you speak the same language, eat the same things, look the same way and see yourselves(politically) in your compatriots you are more likely to be willing to live with the tradeoffs. One of the reasons Scandinavian countries have historically had stricter immigration policies and even now are still getting tougher. They live in a historically rough neighbourhood, they cant afford to lose their advantage.

interestingly this majority and its advantages are everywhere. Be that in Botswana or Ghana or Singapore or all of the North East Asian States or Turkey or Argentina. People have grown uncomfortable with human political realities. Sentiment can only go so far until necessities take over. America sacrificied its ethnolinguistic majority (on the right it was to access cheap educated labour on the left it was to take power under a rainbow coalition) This is why America will never be as stable and united(the irony) as it was in the last two and a half century unless they develop a new majority until then these kinds of debates that merely scratch the surface will rage on. As the saying goes the road to hell is paved with good intentions.

@proger1960 no its. not you are talkibg about startups but aside from US not many nations have that in abundance, Asian(Indian Incompetance is an exception) states primarily specialize in hardware. again you have a distinct lack of understanding of the technology scene beyond the US. US has a highly favourable systems in place especially university clusters in California and up and coming ones in Texas, The Taiwanese picked upon it decades earlier and set up the Hsinchu Science Park, unfact they set up their systems with direct inputs from americans. Asian nations specialize in niche sectors, having unicorns with large valuation matters to a country only if the technology is era defining, like the one ASML and its subsidiaries are into.

8:36 Why Europe is destined for conflict.

Single handed reason for Europes collapse, Either the european states simply die out or they let in immigrants and become dysfunctional divided societies and die out albiet at a slower pace (immigrant workforce can be an effective tax base but political stability and consensus requires that each human sees oneself in their countrymen that means relative cultural, linguistic and religious majorities). There is a reason why Europe and East Asia has been successful while post colonial african states and places like India have not been. American Capital can work wonders only if the foundation is strong and willing. True for South Korea and Japan as it is for Taiwan, Israel and Germany or any of the high functioning social democracies of northern Europe. crack that foundation by introducing reactive and insular immigrants unwilling to assimilate and consequences that will reach beyond generations will come into existence.
