Oil was a side hustle. The real target was AQ, which was at that time dispersed across the muslims world. Invading one country throws its neighbours into disarray, cant invade iran cant invade the saudi's(too kuch oil at stake) invading iraq means you can create a killing field to draw in all the elements that thrive in a conflict areas. Iraq was meant to be that killing field to draw out AQ from the mountains, force the regions major players to do the actual killing, AQ was a multinational org cant destroy them through conventional means. This was the the most probable original intent, things just went south from there. US already had oil supplies from elsewhere, the oil invasions are a myth, did cheney and his ilk take advantage of that ? Yes. But the plan wasnt about oil it just devolved into it as the war dragged on, mission creep and all that.
