While torture is inexcusable. When you fight enemies that thrive on terror, they tend to drag you down to their level. To the critics i would say countries older and more illustrious than the US have done this and worse. The only thing that turns americans into annoying little pr1ks is their moral grandstanding which they can afford form their virtual island of a homeland. Unfortunately for the rest of the world this is how the cookie crumbles. Islamists and other fundamentalists exploit these kinks and weakness in your belief system, Imagine if there was a sufficient enough islamic populace in mainland US, even Turkey and socially advanced societies like Malaysia have islamists that thrive on religious obsession and "death to the nonbelievers" chant and they are an economic crisis away from regressing, India is a fine example of how lowkey economic crisis can screw up priorities. Values should be functional and not based on fairytales and sanctimonious bull that'll be dropped at the first sign of inconvenience. Americans as a society are fairely young and it'll take time for them to realise that their citizens should be eligible for rights the rights under the constitution only if they are loyal to the constitution and not when they throw their lot in with unevolved tribalistic ideologies that exploit and perpetuate terror and regressive mindsets.
