Its a matter of funds, both nehru and modi are faced with nearly the same problem, a poor nation, Except with nehru dysfunctional economic and political idealism reigned supreme, with modi political and economic policies have a semblance of pragmatism with meaningful priority given to market driven policies, but atleast he doesnt have the same level of administrative incompetence and dogmatic delusions as Nehru did, perhaps except with the whole 'Hindutva' thing, aside from that he's got potential, the opening up of the defence sector was a smart move but its a multi decade project to build up the capacity to manufacture and maintain complex hardwares and indigenous supplychains that would have to be internationally competitive to sustain without regular govt assistance with guaranteed(this is India afterall) cost overruns that too in a corrupt and over bureaucratized country like ours is nothing short of tall order, plus our bureaucrats have too high an opinion of themselves with too little to show for it to carry out any sort of meaningful reform defence or otherwise add our illiterate and incompetent politicians to the mix and you have a brilliant recipe for India. It'll probably take us close to a century to get to a place where have a resilient enough economy and relatively high value added workforce that we can make shit that actually works, rather than beat our chest at the drop of a hat and stuff our ears at the first sound of criticism making accusations of jealousy and conspiracy when aside from the paki's nobody has a vested interest in making any, most of them are disinterested at best and apathetic at worst.
