Despite being a serious documentary about a virus that has now killed millions around the world, I'll have to admit that the "Dad Joke" @ 2:42 was pretty good.

I'm sorry you had to experience both the tragedy of AIDS crisis and the victim blaming from ultraconservative, including the families that disowned their terminally ill children because of the fear of HIV/AIDS. I can only assume you've gained an appreciation of life since you're hopefully still here telling your first-hand experience.

This documentary was filmed when only ~800 people had died from AIDS, so I don't think the first child had been diagnosed yet. Please don't interpret that as me making an excuse for Jerry Falwell, televangelist, and other far-Right bigots. They treated gays dying from HIV/AIDS horribly (including their own children), but I don't think they were confronted to explain whether "God's wrath" was also responsible for killing children born with HIV, and the people who contracted the virus from blood transfusion and contaminated blood-plasma products.

@soft_serve_666 The Administration made it perfectly clear that Rock Hudson, once a good friend of Ronald and Nancy Reagan and Republican donor, was the only gay person worth of his attention. His death got Congress and the White House to spend more money on AIDS research and treatment. There were civil servants working for the government like Dr. Fauci and Dr. C. Everett Koop both of whom refused to ignore the AIDS crisis. The only tool they had at their disposal to slow down transmission rates was education about the virus and how to take precautions. The Reagan Administration began to paying attention because they didn't like what Dr. Fauci and Dr. Koop were doing before the media and were uncomfortable talking about sex. Instead of focusing on safe-sex education and condoms, they made a policy of fighting aids about morality, and promoted abstinence and "Just Say No" to drugs" to win the "War on AIDS."
