Also, they had foreign reserve held in US and EU banks that have been frozen. They clearly weren't prepared for that because no one disclosed the options available to US/EU sanctions. That sounds like a good propaganda line, but why would any rational statesman lose one of their biggest foreign trade markets? That would be like Boeing getting kicked out of the passenger jet market and used their defense contracts to show how prepared they were for the action.

  17. If Russia uses tactical nukes on a country that never attacked them, then we should make Ukraine into a nuclear power. They'd have the ability to respond in kind. We (the US) are partially responsible for the international agreement that de-nuclearized Ukraine and forced them to return their Soviet-era nukes to Moscow. Their exchange of nuclear weapons for military aid, is what brought the West (initially US + UK) into the conflict to aid Ukraine and use economic warfare against the Kremlin.

I understand the urgency to prevent a collapse and stabilize the energy market, but there should be more clarification on economic sanctions, take overs, frozen assets, and nationalization of private property. The sanctions in the West against Russian oligarchs, energy providers, and assets owned by the Russian government aren't being taken without compensation and without due process. Property rights are always respected and honored in the West. In the US, most of the new sanctions and economic warfare were done by Executive Orders, and without Congress or the judiciary involved. From the reporting, it sounds like the governments are nationalizing private property and socializing ownership.

The Fed controls interest rates, money supply, and stabilizes inflation, which is a huge deal globally and could cause a recession during an election year; but it's hard to distinguish between a Republican and Democratic monetary policy. Love him or hate him, Sen. Joe Manchin is one of those powerful and influential politicians in the country. With today's political gridlock in Washington, DC, it's nearly impossible to get any new spending or legislation through Congress and to the President's Desk, without Manchin's backing. Biden should probably seriously consider winning over more Mitch and GOP senators instead of appeasing Manchin.

A lot of these charges and investigations could have been avoided had there been an adult in the room to tell him, "no!" At this point, a presidential pardon and/or executive clemency of state charges would resolve the legal uncertainty. The US inflation rate is stable, and if it were devalued it would have to be relative to another currency. The rest of the 1st countries are using similar stimulus and have poor GDP growth. The people concerned about inflation are the ones that were around during 70s when there was stagflation. All the printed money can't cause more inflation unless it's spent. If there were concerns about the dollar, the Fed would realize that before you did. Let them do the job we elected then too.
