@tj2484 Get rid of the First Amendment, and then you can regulate the media all you want. All they do is report information; they can't legally slander or intentionally spread disinformation. They don't control the minds of people with critical thinking skills. If the majority felt that way about the free press, they wouldn't be in business. There's clearly an audience for the material, but it's on a small segment of the population classifying them as "mainstream media," and "enemy of the people." I haven't seen the stats, but that's not an independent or centrist position. The term "fake news" meant something completely different before January 2017. You might not like the opinion, but I only hear MSM hatred from Trump voters and the far-Right, and for some reason they automatically assumes the rest of the world hates the media, too.

@tj2484 Is this something related to Covid-19/vaccine misinformation? The First Amendment is binding on Congress and state government. Mainstream media isn't the source; it's a communication medium. Depending on the topic, the direct sources are governments, educational officials, scientists, legal experts, doctors, and authors.

@tj2484 [2/2] The media are in business to get views and ad revenue. They know how to adjust their message to appeal to the political views of their audience. They’re also competing with social-media and internet platforms that use algorithms that filter information, so there‘s a population of viewers who are essentially unreachable. The problem I have is how some on the Right respond by attacking all MSM, political news, and opinion journalism, and their Left-leaning viewers. In my opinion the criticism should be at the misuse and improper labelling of the word "News," and how the cable news including opinion pieces and editorials with their regular news divisions. The First Amendment guarantees a regulation-free press and protected political speech, but broadcasting “fake news”, slander, and improperly labelling opinion pieces as undisputed fact will subject the media to tort and fraud lawsuits. Ethical journalism and defamation laws still exist in America. The FCC’s equal-time rule and fairness doctrine applies only to local TV and radio broadcast stations, using the federal airwaves as a “public utility.” The rest of the regulations and ethical standards are self imposed by the industry.

@BriqWall Spending is a bill: e.g., every bill under Trump has been spent. None of the Biden spending proposals are debt now. It's now US treasury debt, which needs to be serviced. It has nothing to do with new spending. That just lies that fascist spread. We go through the same explanation every time there is a democratic president. The GOP get amnesia. This is interest on the debt. If you default, interest goes. You end up paying more in the long run. What you're saying is dumb. That's why you're getting called out.

The game of chess between the White House and the Kremlin requires Sovietologist and Russian experts in the State Dept, Pentagon, and intelligence community. The presidents are given a number of different options for an appropriate response and just signs off. The same career civil servants remain in office despite changes in political leadership.

@craigscott7315 I never said it wasn't pork. It can go on all kinds of crap, but it's just one of the tools the government can do to "temporarily" boost the economy. If they make tax cuts or spending permanent, it looses effect. As long as they have a short-term increase in buying bombs, airplanes, healthcare services, and issuing food stamps and cut taxes, it shows up in the next quarters GDP and jobs reports. The only method quicker and more effective is Fed and its magical money that can appear and disappear without ever being seen.
