Luckily I never had that problem, I worked 37.5 relaxed hours per day, never an hour of overtime. I could have made more in the private sector but I would never trade more money for my time, time is always way more valuable than money.

I've essentially been working 4 days a week for years, but I'm fortunate that I have a government job. I could make way more in the private sector but I simply have no interest in working longers having less freedom and flexibility. The same is true in terms of getting promotions, I see people doing everything they can to get to the next level giving no thought to job satisfaction. I always tell people, time is much more valuable than money, I will not sacrifice my time for more money. You can always make more money, but you can never recover the time that has passed by.

Great video! I was expecting you to talk more about how cryptocurrencies will play into the demise of the US dollar although you did touch on the blockchain technology. A great video would be on how you view cryptocurrencies in particular Bitcoin to play out in the coming years😁

Learning how to cook or make a sandwich can save you tons of money in the long run. Also learning how to do repairs around the house can save you tens of thousands of after tax money. Who wants to spend all their time making money, being a well rounded person with different skills and hobbies makes for a happier person. In life it's far better doing what you love than focusing on what brings in the most money. Studies time and again have shown that making our having money simply does not produce happiness. Most people only realize this far too late in life.

Nothing wrong with being an employee, you can achieve your dreams that way with much less risk

I must be lucky, we are a one income household, I don't earn an insane amount, raised 4 kids, my retirement income will be very healthy, none of my kids incurred any student debt (with one to go), maybe living in Canada helps😁

So you happened to pick a stock going up in the long term as an example of how stoicism benefited you. But what if it went to zero, then what would your conclusion be?? And is in fact picking very speculative investments practicing stoicism at all? Food for thought. Great video by the way, made me think that stoicism is just a fancy way of saying we should temper our emotions.

I'm a nutshell you need to do what interests, motivates and drives you, basically following your passions lol. The key is to not define your interests and passions too narrowly, but rather look at what is at the root of your interests such things as interacting with people or doing research, or designing things, or travel and culture, etc. There will then be a multitude of possibilities open to you.

@TheAssassinManny 💯 agree

@VincentChan but you did say to minimize cash. Are you trying to buy the dips?

Much easier said than done!

I think the best advice you can give during a recession, and so far this has been a relatively mild one, Dow down 10% S&P 20%, speculative Nasdaq 30%, is to stay the course and continue dollar cost averaging investing. Sounds like you are trying to time the market, risky business.

I can relate to your experience. You have practiced a frugal lifestyle for so long in order to achieve your goal and now that you have the means to spend much more it is very much against your nature to do so. So do you become a big spender just because you can or is that going against your core beliefs?? That's the dilemma!

@eduardhorst831 This is hilarious all the spam here. Provide a link to his website.

Problem is too many people equate success with money. We need to think of success in completely different terms. It's people and emotions and our mindset that create happiness and feelings of success. Sure money is important to live but we greatly exaggerated how much money we need to be satisfied. Ultimately success and happiness is a journey and not a designation.

Haha so true, whenever someone shares a "secret" that's just a code for "buy my product or service". If someone truly had a secret to making fast money, trust me he would guard it with his life until it didn't work anymore, then he would sell it lol! Not saying that's what's going on here, but you need to take everything with a grain of salt especially when you hear things like once in a lifetime opportunity.

@wnisewond59 I don't need anyone's help to build my own dreams, I can do it on my own😁

@MelissaOfTheTower l guess introverts like everything else comes in different shades.

@adoscz9812 and why can't Bitcoin become more green

You should make a video on the upcoming housing market. Do you feel house prices will go down in the near future?
3
@vampirethespiderbatgod9740 Not necessarily, many businesses and individuals declare bankruptcy. There is no guarantee you will come out ahead, otherwise it wouldn't be called "Risk" . For example Warren Buffett is considered a very prudent risk averse investor, only investing in very solid well established businesses. I would hardly say he has " less money" 🤣

There last part of your video was the most relevant as these are no risk ways of saving on taxes. Anyone who has done basic research into financial planning should already be well aware of these tax breaks. However leveraged investing such as the real estate example you gave is a two edged sword. If you are in a recessionary market you can lose a lot even get wiped out. Buying stuff you don't really need for a business can lower your taxes but it also lowers your liquid assets which is not necessarily a good thing.

@YashaswinPathangi-hi4kl true it takes time but certainly beats watching hours and hours of football or other tv shows. And professionals often do lousy jobs and over charge. I easily saved over 100k doing my own renovating all the while working full-time as a professional in the financial sector and also taking multiple vacations a year. And also I raised 4 kids with my wife who has been a stay at home mom for the past 20+ years.

Putting yourself on YouTube every week seems like a very extrovert thing to do. You seem very comfortable in front of the camera, maybe you are not as introvert as you imagined.
2
@VincentChan I would say hands down it is raising a family and watching them progress in their own journey through life.
2
@theboringchannel2027 Not only that, they will create entry barriers to their business to reduce competition.

@baggfullofswagg Please get help, sounds like you are planning your own death !!😂

But can you afford having kids? It's easy when you have double income no kids.

Although I agree making money to become self reliant is a very worthwhile goal, I question this mindset of making money to become rich financially. First it's a million then 2, then 5, then 10... does it simply become a measuring stick of success or is it because one feels the more money he has the happier he will be?? Many studies have shown that having a lot of money simply doesn't equate to being happy. Now there is nothing wrong with being wealthy if you can handle it and keep your life in balance with family, friends, and community but unfortunately for most it becomes an all consuming endeavour until they lose perspective and their very sense of identity is tied to their wealth.

What about the opportunity cost of buying a Tesla for $60k.... Let's see...$600k!!!! Omg no one should ever be buying Teslas😝😝

I would like to know your views on gold, since it can't be created out of thin air like money can. It's hovering close to historic highs but some feel that it will explode to the upside in the near term.

@Sabretooth-gz7pp ??

Definitely! 😁

So how much did you have saved up when you quit your job? I'm asking because it might help guide listeners to know how much of a safety net is required before quitting your job.
1
Yeah easy, just cut out all the fun things in your life then you will have time to do the things that bring you money 😂😂. And please don't have kids they will greatly delay your path to financial freedom after all life is all about retiring as early as possible!
1
@VincentChan Yeah just a little sarcasm on my part. In the end it's all about enjoying the "work" you do in life because then it's not really work but having fun while living a meaningful and productive life😁
1
Vincent, sounds like you worked hard to get where you are today😁. I think working hard and smart are both important. Being lazy and smart will get you nowhere. However you don't need to work hard all your life just long enough to get those passive income streams flowing!
1
Luck also plays a big role in financial success, this has been proven. There are many wealthy people that got that way by dumb luck and there are others who applied all these principles and never became wealthy.
1
Did you honestly work 60-80 hours per week?? I work 35 hours per week with great benefits, and never feel stressed.

Can you give a link?

@melissadelatorre9758 I guess it depends on your definition of introvert, but I think of introvert as being on the shy side not seeking public attention.
1
Great way of explaining everything, you don't just focus on money but on the mindset, you just earned a new subscriber!

@VincentChan ganache is the best!!!
