  1. It's the Shark Tank, the next big thing mentality. VCs have too much money and putting it in an index fund is boring and won't get you clout so why not invest in 100 startups because as long as a few make it, you earn 100x what you put in by making it go public. That's why you see the crazy publicity over upcoming IPOs because these early investors need to make the masses believe in the story so they can unload their shares to the "sheeps."
