...And now I'm wondering if it would be possible, with the shipbuilding technology of the time, to take Captain's design and make the hurricane deck strong enough to suspend the turrets from its underside, allowing the deck flooring the turret windows to be completely sealed off against water incursion and bringing her effective freeboard up to something reasonably safe. Then again, you'd still have to deal with her very weak righting arm unless you also significantly redesigned the hull...
