The 12" guns on the first-and-second-generation Italian dreadnoughts were wire-wound guns, and, according to Navweaps, the process of boring out the guns to 12.6" caliber involved drilling out the entire inner tube and the inner portion of the wire wrap before shrinking what was left onto a new, larger-caliber inner tube. How did they manage to do this without accidentally introducing structural defects into the wire layer? It seems intuitively that they'd be risking dragging the individual wires out of position when boring out the inner face of the wire layer.

@coldwarrior78 I'm guessing that, with the treaty-imposed displacement limits, they judged (at least in part) that, given how difficult it already was to cram good armor, good speed, good primary and secondary armament, good stability and seakeeping, and good structural integrity into a 10,000-ton hull, adding torpedoes to the equation would've forced an unacceptable compromise of one of those other aspects.
