1:18:25 - And even with those improvements, modern jets are still considerably slower to spool up than piston engines (because of the honking great rotational inertia of the compressor/turbine rotors); also, with a prop plane (assuming it's using a tractor configuration, which most do), an increase in engine power produces an immediate increase in lift (from the prop wash going back over the wings), whereas a jet engine has to accelerate the entire airplane to a higher speed in order to increase the airplane's lift.

Why was the deliberate large-scale use of kamikazes in war essentially limited to WWII? It seems to me like they would've been a valid strategy for a military that doesn't have the best aircraft but's good at motivating pilots to go and die gloriously for their country, and not just in WWII. For instance, I know this straddles the very end of the period your channel covers, but why didn't the Chinese/Soviet/North Korean air forces in the Korean War use kamikazes against the battleships and carriers dropping explosives on their land forces?

1:36:20 - And even a speculatively-built aircraft can still bankrupt a company!

1:48:40 - I wonder if anyone's made a program like SpringSharp, except for submarines?
