Did any navies experiment with inerting aircraft-carrier avgas tanks to reduce the risk of accidental fuel-vapor explosions (from e.g. lightning strikes, electrical faults, destructive pump failures, static discharges, etc.), given that avgas vapors are flammable down to truly Antarctic temperatures and an aircraft carrier operating piston-engined aircraft carries enough avgas tankage that an avgas-vapor explosion of said tankage would likely wreck the carrier?

  4.  @ThatWelshGuy.  The first British nuke happened to it, via essentially the same method as with LSM-60. Look up Operation Hurricane.
