  1. I wonder how World War II would've been affected if one side or another'd managed to create a super-high-altitude military airship. It's easier to develop lighter-than-air craft that can cruise around at truly-extreme altitudes than heavier-than-air craft capable of the same, which would've given a considerable advantage to such an airship against airplanes through at least the end of WWII; a zeppelin with a pressurized crew cabin and a flight ceiling of 50,000-60,000 feet would be basically untouchable to anything manmade other than another of its own kind, unless maybe someone jury-rigged up a V-2 or similar as an SAM and tried to hit the airship with it. ...Aaand now I'm imagining gigantic airships slow-motion dogfighting in the stratosphere in WWII, complete with gun emplacements crewed by men in pressure suits.
