If the misidentification of Chōkai as part of Force Z by the torpedo bombers sent to attack said Force had resulted in said torpedo bombers mistakenly attacking and damaging or sinking Chōkai, what sort of knock-on effects would that've had on the naval war going forwards? 2. Were any large warships built with fully-or-partially-hydrodynamically-balanced rudders (i.e., with a significant area of rudder surface forward of the rudder's hinge line, in order to provide some degree of assistive hydrodynamic force to fully-or-partially compensate for the enormous hydrodynamic centering force that tends to resist rudder deflections)? In the same vein, did large-warship rudders incorporate balance weights forward of the hinge line to mass-balance the rudder and keep it from deflecting under its own weight when listing or heeling or when the ship is subjected to sudden lateral accelerations (like the balance weights used in aircraft flight-control surfaces for the same purpose)?
