You'll need to install Wine first; after that, you should be able to run Springsharp (and most other Windows applications) just fine.

@Deipnosophist_the_Gastronomer Actually, on second thought, what distro are you using? Apparently a lot of distros include an out-of-date version of Wine that doesn't work well.

If you install Wine (it's a software compatibility layer for Windows applications on Linux and macOS), you should be able to run Springsharp on any compatible version of macOS that supports 32-bit x86 applications (Mountain Lion through Mojave, inclusive).

@ryanh2621 The Tillmans would've been good seaboats in any case; the impracticalities were in things like "cost" and "drydock space".

The .ssr files are ordinary formatted text documents; you should be able to open and read them using the word processor of your choice. (Source: has eleven different SSR files open in LibreOffice Writer at the moment.)
