Regarding the V-1s, wouldn't their accuracy be somewhat better with them being used as direct-fire weapons at close range, as compared to their historical use as long-range area-bombardment weapons?

@richardschaffer5588 ...and a given azimuth error will produce a range/crosstrack error at target that is directly proportional to the range from the launch site to the target. An azimuth error that produces an error of several miles over the distance from the launch sites to London will produce a much-smaller error over the much-shorter distances involved in launching V-1s from the Normandy countryside at ships just offshore.

@richardschaffer5588 They were multiple miles off target when used at extreme long range. For a given magnitude of azimuth error or uncertainty, the distance between the aim point and the impact point (or, for uncertainty rather than fixed error, the radius of the circular error probable) is directly proportional to flight distance; at ship-to-ship-combat ranges, which are a tiny fraction of the distances between the continental V-1 launch sites and e.g. London, their inaccuracy would be much less of a problem. Also, a big part of the trouble in hitting London was the Germans being fed bogus targeting data by British double agents in the U.K., which wouldn't be a problem in a scenario where the Germans can get the targeting data directly themselves via rangefinder.
