@tz8785 You'd think that after a while they'd catch on that their ships are consistently completing massively overweight and start to compensate for that earlier in the process, though... (admittedly, this would require competent designers and builders, which is rather pushing the bounds of believability where Imperial Russia is concerned)

Inspired by the all-forward Hood you showed us a number of Drydocks ago and the Mogami-engined Hood from a considerably-older Drydock: if you took all-forward Hood, stuffed its machinery spaces full of Le Fantasque machinery, then, assuming that somehow it doesn't twist its propellers off their shafts or ship so much water at top speed that it sinks itself, (a) how fast would it go (and would it be able to beat Le Terrible's historical all-time speed record for a vessel with a conventional single displacement hull), and (b) at that top speed, how long would it take to run its fuel tanks dry?
