@markjoenks2217 It's highly unlikely that the Philippines would've still been Spanish by the 1940s even sans Spanish-American War; the islands were already on the cusp of breaking free under their own power by the time the U.S. got involved (to the point where, when the U.S. did get involved, everything except the city of Manila itself was liberated by Filipino forces rather than U.S. troops, and the bulk of the Philippines was effectively independent from then until the U.S. double-crossed them).

Where does one draw the line between heavy armored cruisers and second-class battleships? Both had guns and armor essentially midway between typical cruiser and battleship calibers, and both were intended for similar combat roles, so how does one differentiate between the two?
