...Out of curiosity, why not do these sort of tests in water shallower than the sub's crush depth (so that even if things go sideways and the submarine sinks, it'll bottom out before reaching the point where it'd implode)?

6:32 - So apparently the potential to slightly increase the reliability of Chinese missile guidance systems (which might well not even've been worth the cost for the PLA to implement them, given that an occasional failure in a missile guidance system is a case of "eh, just launch another one" whereas an occasional failure in a space-launcher guidance system is a potential mass-casualty scenario) is a bigger concern to the U.S. government than the potential deaths of hundreds to thousands of civilians in future launch failures. Great going, Clinton... 🙄🤦‍♀
