  1. I wonder... what's stopping the rest of the U.S. judicial system from simply ignoring this ruling? The Supreme Court has no power to compel adherence to its rulings; the only reason they're generally obeyed is that the Supreme Court is respected as a (theoretically-)impartial arbiter of the law. If the Supreme Court shatters that respect by making a ruling with no factual basis whatsoever, what stops the lower courts from acting as if the Supreme Court is incapacitated and simply defying said nonsensical ruling?
