  2. I'd go back to Spain if I could (I have an elderly mother and sister, both with health issues). My friend was able to buy her flat on a teacher's budget. She has sweeping views of the Mediterranean and spends her retirement walking by the sea and socializing with friends. Meanwhile, I am working 45-50 hours a week just to make rent and pay for the basics. I still enjoy life but know that chronic leukemia will make it difficult for me to continue to work full-time. I can't afford to quit. My apartment is tiny, has no AC (not good when you live in the high desert!), laundry facility, or any amenities beyond a roof, electricity and running water! The management company "enrolled" us in renters insurance...another way to get money out of us. My wages don't meet the cost of living, despite stellar performance reviews. Even my superiors feel I should be getting more. And I have two Master's degrees...still paying off loans on the second one. The cost-benefit analysis of staying alive doesn't look hopeful. Therefore, I've elected to eschew cancer treatments and just run out the course of life. Fortunately, it's a slow progressing cancer!
