At the time of the Constitution, handguns were virtually unknown in private hands, because they were terribly inaccurate, could not be concealed, and were essentially extremely short range canons. (forget the Mel Gibson movie) Not one single person at the Constitutional convention could have ever dreamed of the extremely accurate, double action, easily affordable, 13 round plus magazine, concealable handguns we have today.

@whousa642 Indisputably true, ask any historian of firearms.

God would have wanted you to carry a P-90 or an AR-15. But come to think of it, since he was Jewish, he would probably carry the old reliable Uzi.

@BearKnight-247 Actually it very specifically mentions a well-regulated militia of course. Why lie? You're also wrong about modern tech, because the court has been struggling for many decades about how to apply concepts from the 18th Century to the 21st in things like Facebook etc.

@whousa642 Typical poorly educated Trump supporter who knows less about the world than the average Albanian school kid.

@BearKnight-247 Outside of people who lived on farms at the edge of the wilderness. virtually all firearms in the US were kept locked up for the use of the militia. In fact Lexington and Concord took place because the patriots were moving those weapons out of the armory to be hidden in the countryside. The Continental Congress spent the whole war trying to find suppliers willing to sell them guns. The Dutch did and eventually the French supplied the majority of weapons used by the Continental armies.
