  2. I watched both of these videos now and they are just hilarious. Only Thomas Sowell could go through two hours about the history of Judaism and hardly even touch on the 1500 years of organized Christian destruction and hate directed towards them. I loved it when he said they were expelled from Spain for "whatever reason" as if nobody knew for sure. In the real world of course it was part of the celebration of Ferdinand and Isabella's victory over the last Islamic outpost in Spain. They were hard line Catholics, especially Isabella and wanted to purify Spain of all non-Catholic people (there were no Protestants as of yet) The Spanish Inquisition, not the only inquisition but the most terrible, was begun by F&I in 1478 specifically to target Jews and those called conversos, who had converted from Judaism to Catholicism but were suspected of being secret Jews. If you want to read a real history of Jews, written by one, try "The Story of the Jews" by Yale professor Simon Schama. It's detailed, but yet very readable.

Clarence Thomas was talking about himself , the ultimate affirmative action baby who never would have gotten on to the Supreme Court or into Yale if he was not black as Thomas himself has admitted. "As much as it stung to be told that I'd done well in the seminary despite my race, it was far worse to feel that I was now at Yale because of it." In fact, during Thomas's time at Yale the students there were graded only on pass/fail and Thomas managed to pass without distinguishing himself in any way academically.

  7. It's a despicable charge to make, being "anti-American". It's a label which has been used against every immigrant group to the US in the last 200 years. It was used heavily against Roman Catholics, even to the point where JFK in 1960 had to battle accusations of owing allegiance to a foreign power. Here is an excerpt from a speech which Sowell would no doubt label as "anti-American": "Our nation was born in genocide, when it embraced the doctrine that the original American, the Indian, was an inferior race. Even before there were large numbers of Negroes on our shore, the scar of racial hatred had already disfigured colonial society. From the sixteenth century forward, blood flowed in battles over racial supremacy. We are perhaps the only nation which tried as a matter of national policy to wipe out its indigenous population." That was written by Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. in 1963. Of course Sowell never liked King anyway.

  15. It's actually very easy to explain how Sowell is wrong here. In the US, the population has always grown through individual immigrants who wanted to come voluntarily to make a success of their lives as Americans. (this excludes those who arrived as slaves of course) In the Austrian Empire, the population grew because the Habsburg family acquired whole provinces and even nations through marriage or force. Those populations did not voluntarily join the Empire and never wanted to become "Austrians".

  41. Sowell's idea of a supposed golden age when Christians got along with Jews has no basis in reality. In fact Christian hatred for Jews started as early as the late 4th Century when St. John Chrysostom, then Bishop of Antioch, delivered a series of sermons known Adversus Judaeos. These basically laid the theological groundwork for 1600 years of Christian hatred direct toward Judaism. You would never know that Christianity was the root and branch of anti-Semitism from listening to Sowell.
