Imagine having farmers running the Netherlands. 😄

@Kalimdor199Menegroth I said they were important, just not running a whole country. By that same logic we should have waste collectors running countries as well... it's hardly conceivable that you can live drowned in trash.

@overman2306 We don't need to grow our own food anymore... the free us time to engage in other activities.
4
@overman2306 I'm not looking down on them, just that it takes more qualifications to run a country.

I wouldn't mind having some land... not for agriculture mind you, but I'm fine with my apartment, I have nice views and the location is quite convenient.

@overman2306 They are important but not the backbone of any country, that's just basic anti-intellectualism.

@overman2306 Ah yes... feminism. So awful that women can now pursue whatever careers they want regardless of male approval. Yes, it's much more convenient to grab food at the supermarket than to plant it. And it would be quite challenging to host chickens in my apartment. 😄

@overman2306 And what did he do at Unilever? Surely he was not in charge of cleaning toilets...

@Kalimdor199Menegroth I already said farmers are important, just not to run a country, but thanks for telling me supermarkets don't grow food.

@Kalimdor199Menegroth Ok, I will now proceed to fish my own fish, get my own steaks, maybe make my own bread and with some luck I'll still have time to cultivate some rice and wheat to make pasta. Seriously, other than some veggies and legumes what are you expecting to grow yourself? I can't live on tomatoes and cabbages.
2
@RBAWintrow Yeah no wonder... since when do farmers run countries?

Heard the same about Meloni... didn't happen.

@Kalimdor199Menegroth What do farmers understand of public finances, healthcare, education or foreign policy? They should have a say in their respective activity and that's it.

@Kalimdor199Menegroth We're in a circular argument now. I won't grow any of that, I'll leave it to the farmers, fishers, bakers etc etc and will pay for their products via a supermarket in return. I have no interest in growing my own food but I have nothing against those who do. In the meantime I'll use my own occupation to make the country's economy stable (nevermind producing stuff that farmers may also need because they don't live in a bubble) for people to have money to pay for those products. It's a well-oiled machine for some time now.

@Kalimdor199Menegroth As someone said above, agrarian/rural societies tend to be the less developed in the world. This has nothing to do with respect but with how the world runs. I know people who work in healthcare and did a fantastic job during the pandemic. And since we're talking about health, shall we talk about the importance of doctors, or science in general? Without them we would be living much less time and dying of preventable diseases. And farmers would surely be some of the most impacted unless you're going to tell me they are self-sufficient and never go to the doctor.
