It doesn't reduce crime so what's the point?

Different countries and jurisdictions.

@js2749 Killing people as a revenge act is not moral.

Wrong continent.

Of course they did.

Agreed

@davidvarley1812 "Enjoying life" behind bars is a very far fetched concept.

@Master_Petes_Theater I don't agree with the principle of granting the State the right to kill people. Glad the Death Penalty is not a thing in Europe.

@Master_Petes_Theater "Comfortable" is not exactly the term but I could live better with that yes. They would of course be judged by their actions afterwards.
1
@Master_Petes_Theater If you kill another person you should be brought to justice yes. All I'm saying, and replying to your question, is that from a moral point of view, I live better (even though I'm not condoning) if someone related to the murdered person kills the offender than the State decreeing that.

Unfortunately the death penalty has no deterrent effect. Mass shooters don't think rationality.

@robocop3961 Didn't work for him, did it? States with the death penalty have an overall higher murder rate than those without it. So much for bring a deterrent.

@curiositycloset2359 If you go by the definition of hate crime, that one wasn't a hate crime. To the victims it's irrelevant what you call it though.
1
@curiositycloset2359 I wasn't the one who came up with the "hate crime" definition, but since it exists yes, you pick and chose depending on the motivations for each crime. It's the same as some Muslims here complaining why this one isn't being called terrorism, people fighting over labels.
1
@curiositycloset2359 The fact that a label exist doesn't mean some crimes are worse than others. A hate crime is one motivated by prejudice against the victims race, ethnicity, etc. If someone kills their neighbour on the basis of a debt then it's not a hate crime. Labels are useful because the world is complex... why do you think we have definitions for murder, homicide and manslaughter when the end result is the same? And then you even have degrees in those. I don't see how my political leanings influence any this, I'm being as generic as possible. Much less am I chastising anyone... unless we're all chastising each other here in the comments.
