It's sinking, many buildings are crumbling and it suffers from overtourism.

@sizanogreen9900 Education systems are bad in Europe? That varies wildly throughout the continent, that's why it's always hard to talk about Europe as if it were a single entity. I'm fine with immigrants as long as their integration is sustainable... we need people able to incorporate into the economy, not add to the poverty we already have.

@elarmino6590 No, we're cool.

Yes, they have nowhere near the same competences. They are similar in that they are administrative divisions, not much else.

@chemicalfrankie1030 It's a question of semantics. Expat sometimes refer to people who are abroad temporarily as opposed to immigrants who are typically more permanent.

@chemicalfrankie1030 I'm not a native English speaker so I have always found the word "expat" a curious one. In my native language we only use "immigrant" no matter the circumstances. From what a could gather, say... from an American point of view, Americans in France will be called expats but Frenchmen in the US will be called immigrants. The temporary/permanent discussion is one I also came across when trying to define the expressions. The OP is Dutch so only he can explain why he used the word expats though.

@greywolf6443 Probably not... even Monaco has them, Monte Carlo being the most well-known.

@urbanfile3861 Yes, Turin and Palermo have quite different climates.

Funny you mention Portsmouth, because the one in the UK is an island too.

Yes, the first intervals are not regular so the reading ends up being misleading.

Only if you wanted to bump into pedestrians all the time.

@KyrieFortune How are cruises useless?

@zugabdu1 Yes, I'm sure City Beautiful's audience will know that... this is not Mr. Beast's channel.

@rai_l Yes they do. It's also an expression used mostly in the English-speaking world. There people who move to your country are "immigrants" while people from your country who move abroad are "expats".

Well, comparing Venice to the Disney World...

@henningbartels6245 Lagoon Venice is a walkable wonder... based on the fact there's no other way of transportation there. Gondolas and small boats aside that is, but those can only take you so far.

@henningbartels6245 I know yes, Venice is not cut for modern life, I agree with you. It's so peculiar a place that it takes a special approach for those who wish to live there. Those who live there for generations will be totally adapted but with the younger people leaving in high numbers the demographic future of old Venice is very shaky. Hope it doesn't turn into an amusement park.
