  3.  @plixplux  To answer your first question... it's Mercedes and BMW having a go at the subscription model that has become the norm in other industries. Not everybody will want that extra performance or heated seats, so instead of producing cars with different specs, they install them and only activate them if you pay that extra monthly fee.
