  8.  @magatism  I agree that the city being made of wood was a problem but in Hawaii almost everything is made of wood except for Honolulu. It's the most readily available material to them which in turn makes it cheaper. And the city was quite old so no fancy wood treatment like modern log cabins. And even in continental US there are tons of timber framed houses. It's just their thing.
