  7. First I don't see many high end homes in Lahaina... secondly if they are high end they were better equipped to resist the fire.

  8. How would could you tell what they were warning though? They guy said people are instructed to run towards the mountains if they hear the sirens... a path that would lead them to the fire.

  13. Wildfires in Hawaii are not rare at all. As for things staying pretty wet, did you see the kind of terrain that surrounds Lahaina and all that region of the Island? It's very dry. The fires started after the hurricane winds battered the islands, not before.

  18.  @thelastsay  Panic clouds your judgment and you could find yourself surrounded by fire without much clue on where to go. Still, most Lahaina residents were able to drive away... except for the unlucky 1000 or so that are unaccounted for.
